A clean motorcycle is synonymous with a well-maintained motorcycle. Proper cleaning helps to extend its life and prevent breakdowns. Before you start cleaning it, you need to know how to do it, since these vehicles have delicate parts that can wear out and deteriorate. We tell you how to clean your motorcycle step by step.
What do you need?
In order to clean your motorcycle you will need to have the right materials to be able to perform the task:
- Bucket with warm water and soap.
- Gloves.
- Degreaser.
- Soft but firm bristle brush (to clean the rims).
- Tire cleaner.
- Microfiber rags for washing.
- Microfiber rags or chamois for drying.
Choose the location
To clean your motorcycle you must be in a suitable place, always in the shade because the sun’s rays can cause damage to the most delicate parts of the motorcycle. Believe it or not, water marks can remain on the bike due to the direct action of the sun before the bike has dried. On the other hand, the place should be spacious and quiet to allow you to work comfortably.
Remove dirt
Use warm water and soap to remove dirt more effectively. To do this, use a soft sponge or a microfiber cloth and soak the area of the motorcycle to be cleaned with it without exerting pressure. When the surface is very dirty it is advisable to use a spray with soap and water to avoid dragging particles that can scratch the paint. Always start from top to bottom, from the top of the bike.
Rinse
Once all the dirt has been removed, you must protect the delicate areas such as: the exhaust pipe, air intakes or exposed electronic components. Once this action is done, rinse directly with water using a bucket or hose.
Eliminate insects
Removing bugs from the front end can be one of the most difficult tasks when it comes to keeping your bike clean and looking like new. In the market you will find a multitude of products designed for this purpose that will help you achieve the best results. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to apply them and remove them completely.
Apply degreaser
The degreaser can be applied on the motorcycle to remove the most difficult stains. Keep in mind that it cannot be used on chrome or metal parts and must always be diluted in water. By applying degreaser and then rinsing with water you ensure that the grease does not come into contact with delicate surfaces that can damage the bike.
Clean the rims
Use a soft but firm bristle brush to properly clean the rims. Immerse the brush in soapy water and remove all existing dirt. To achieve a better cleaning, after this action, it is advisable to use a wheel cleaner product to keep their shine. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for its application and dry the area properly using a microfiber cloth.
Polishes
In the market you will find a multitude of options to give a shiny finish to your motorcycle. These types of products also provide additional protection to your motorcycle. To apply them you must follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Grease the chain
After washing, the chain may have lost its grease, so it is essential to do this after washing. This will ensure that it works properly and is lubricated.
