“Premium” brands (Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, BMW and Volvo) market plug-in hybrids (PHEV) with greater ranges in 100% electric mode, with distances that reach almost 1,350 km and at their minimum they move in around 70 or 80 kilometers.
It is important to note that most other PHEV brands and models on the market are positioned with ranges between 40 and 60 km on average.
It is essential when purchasing a plug-in hybrid car to know its electric range data in detail, knowing that the current regulation grants the “ZERO” environmental sticker from the DGT to all those that have a 100% electric range greater than 40 km. .
The PHEV alternative is really useful and ecological, especially for use in cities, since most of the time the electrical energy stored in the battery will be used instead of the traditional combustion engine, clearly reducing fuel consumption.
The greatest autonomy is offered by Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover
It is these two brands that undoubtedly stand out above the rest of the market in this aspect, offering ranges in their plug-in hybrids that exceed 100 km in several models of the two ranges.
The highest approved autonomy is offered by:
Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e 4MATIC in conventional or Coupé version with 130-135 km.
Range Rover Sport PHEV, with its 113 km.
Other models from both brands with significant electric autonomy are:
- Range Rover PHEV, with 100 km.
- Mercedes-Benz C-Class 300e Saloon and Estate, with its 112-115 km.
- Mercedes-Benz GLE 400e 4MATIC SUV or SUV Coupé, with 105 km.
- Mercedes-Benz S-Class 580e Plug-in Hybrid, with 97-112 km.
As we can see, the German brand Mercedes is the one that offers the best autonomy features in its range of long-range plug-in hybrid models. All of the brand’s models with these characteristics offer more than 54 km without generating emissions and, in general, many exceed 70 km of autonomy.
BMW, third in the ranking
- BMW X5 xDrive 50e exceeds 100 km of autonomy with its approved 110 km.
- BMW 2 Series 225e xDrive and 230e xDrive provide 92 km of autonomy.
- BMW X1 xDrive 25e, with 92 km.
- BMW XM and BMW 7 series 750e xDrive, exceed 80 km of autonomy.
- BMW X5 2023
Volvo under 100 km
The Swedish brand has ensured that its entire range can offer good electric ranges in its plug-in hybrid variants:
Volvo V90Recharge (estate),Volvo V60 Recharge (estate), Volvo
S90 Recharge and the Volvo S60 Recharge, approve between 88 and 94 km of 100% electric autonomy.
The brand’s SUVs, such as the Volvo XC60Recharge and the Volvo XC90Recharge, exceed 70 kilometers of fully electric autonomy.

Other models
We can cite some cars from various brands that offer good levels of 100% electric autonomy:
Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV (series hybrid or extended range electric, a different solution to PHEVs), with 85 kilometers.
- Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4 with 82 kilometers.
- Toyota RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid with 75 kilometers.
- Toyota RAV4 PHEV – Source: Motor Mundial magazine
- Hyundai Santa Fe with 69 kilometers of autonomy.
The absence of Audi
It is surprising that the German Audi does not appear among the plug-in hybrids with longer ranges, although according to the brand this has a clear explanation as it has focused very directly on the development of 100% electric models.
In any case, Audi offers records that exceed 50 km of electric autonomy and do not go further, with very normal levels in the current market and without superior offers in this regard.
